2011 Tennessee Renaissance Festival

Gath of Baal Jousting Tournament.

On Memorial Day weekend, the Festival hosts the Gath Of Baal International Jousting Tournament. Since 1993 the Free Lancers have held the Tournament Memorial Day Weekend in Texas. In 2005 the Tournament moved to the Tennessee Renaissance festival.

Throwing a lance at a squire -5
Breaking a lance +5
Hitting a horse #1 -10
Tip to Tip +5 each
Hitting a horse #2 Disqualification
Unhorsing +10 The highest score possible for a single pass is 10 points.

INTERNATIONAL JOUSTING TOURNAMENT STYLES

 
FRENCH .......................................with emblazoned shield, passing left shoulder unto left shoulder, crossing the lance over the horse’s neck and attempting to strike the other knight’s shield in an attempt to unhorse him
NORTHERN ITALIAN .................without benefit of shield, passing left shoulder unto left shoulder, crossing the lance over the horse’s neck and attempting to strike the other knight’s unprotected breastplate or helm in an attempt to unhorse him
PLANKENGESTECH....................with plackards added, passing left shoulder unto left shoulder, crossing the lance over the horse’s neck and attempting to strike the other knight’s breastplate in an attempt to unhorse him.
WELSCHGESTECH .....................with grand guards & buffs, passing left shoulder unto left shoulder, crossing the lance over the horse’s neck and attempting to strike the other knight’s grand guard in an attempt to unhorse him
REALGESTECH ...........................with gridded grand guards & buffs, passing left shoulder unto left shoulder, crossing the lance over the horse’s neck and attempting to strike the other knight’s grand guard in an attempt to unhorse him.
OPTIONAL FREESTYLE
SOUTHERN ITALIAN .................without shield and passing right shoulder unto right shoulder, placing the lance at a more direct angle of five degrees and attempting to strike the other knight’s unprotected breastplate or helm in an attempt to unhorse him. This is the hardest hitting of the various styles
